EU policies put on hold before treaty
According to a report in EUobserver, Commission
officials have admitted there has been a clamp-down on controversial policy
's presidency of the EU
as member states begin the process of ratifying the revised EU Constitution.
Potentially contentious talks - such as on an EU diplomatic service - have
been put on the backburner until the treaty is approved by all member
states. Last month the Health Services Directive was shelved by the
Commission because it was believed it could hinder ratification.
TUAEUC has produced
a new pamphlet outlining why trade unionists should demand a referendum on
the renamed EU Constitution. It has also produced a document arguing the
democratic case against the EU Constitution and copies of both are
available free on request
